- How to Perform Narayan Bali Pooja
Narayan Bali Pooja is a significant ritual in Hinduism performed to appease the souls of deceased ancestors who may have died due to unnatural causes. This pooja helps to liberate the souls and grant them peace (moksha). Here’s a detailed guide on the steps involved in performing Narayan Bali Pooja.
Steps to Perform Narayan Bali Pooja
1. Narayan Bali Sankalp
The pooja begins with taking a Sankalp (vow) to perform the ritual with dedication and sincerity. The priest guides the devotee in making a solemn promise to complete the pooja for the peace of the departed soul.
2. Pretha Sankalp
This step involves making a Sankalp specifically for the deceased. It acknowledges the presence of the departed soul and seeks their permission and blessings to conduct the ritual.
3. Vinayaka Pooja
Next, the devotee performs Vinayaka Pooja, which is a worship of Lord Ganesha. This step is crucial as Lord Ganesha is the remover of obstacles, ensuring the smooth execution of the pooja.
4. Pretha Avahana for Departed Souls Using Sriphala
In this step, the priest invokes the presence of the departed souls using a coconut (Sriphala). The coconut symbolizes the head of the deceased, and this invocation invites the souls to participate in the ritual.
5. Dash Pind Pradhan
Dash Pind Pradhan involves offering ten rice balls (Pindas) to the departed soul. These Pindas represent the body and are offered to provide a symbolic body to the soul.
6. Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, Yama, Savitra Devatha Kalasha Sthapane and Avahanam
This step involves the establishment (Sthapana) and invocation (Avahanam) of the deities Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, Yama, and Savitra. The priest sets up Kalashas (sacred pots) representing these deities and invokes their presence to witness and bless the ritual.
7. Panchaka Shraddh
Panchaka Shraddh is a detailed ritual involving the offering of food and prayers to five generations of ancestors. It is performed to seek blessings and forgiveness from the ancestors.
8. Narayan Bali Homa
In this step, a fire ritual (Homa) is conducted in the name of Lord Narayan. Offerings are made into the sacred fire while chanting specific mantras, which are believed to appease the souls and grant them peace.
9. Brahaman Muka Dwara Panch Sukta Parayana with Prayaschita Tila Homam
This step involves chanting the Panch Suktas (five sacred hymns) through a Brahmin’s mouth and performing a Tila (sesame seeds) Homa as an act of atonement. This is done to purify the ritual and ensure the proper conduct of the pooja.
10. Dasha Daan
The final step is Dasha Daan, where ten different types of donations are made to Brahmins and the needy. These donations could include food, clothes, money, etc. It is believed that this act of charity helps in accruing merit and blessings for the deceased.

Gopal Ji also took us for Darshan at the temple, and we had a very close darshan. Please reach out to them based on your needs, and you won’t be disappointed.”

Akash Gupta:
“This is a recounting of the amazing experience I had with the Narayan Bali, Tila Homa, and Tripindi Shradh Pooja arranged by Gopal Shastry Panditji. Starting with logistics and trip planning, Gopal Ji was very helpful from the beginning. He not only suggested the appropriate date for the pooja but also provided information about the various modes of transportation to Gokarna. The cab was arranged by him, and the driver was a local from Gokarna, making the ride from the airport smooth. The accommodation was in Gopal Ji’s house, which was an experience in itself. The Satwik food, prepared in the kitchen of the house, was delicious. We were touched by the warmth and hospitality of Panditji’s family. The pooja itself was an out-of-this-world experience for both myself and my wife. The pooja was spread over two days, and the meaning of each ritual was explained in detail. Post conclusion of the pooja in the evening, the peace experienced was extraordinary. In addition to the pooja, Panditji kindly took us for a visit to the Ganpati and Mahabaleshwar temples, which are spiritual powerhouses. I would definitely be coming back for the divine experience that I had here.”
KCS:
“The priests are really very good. They ask about every detail for communication. They speak Kannada, Hindi, and Telugu very well. They explain the pooja process in different languages for better understanding. They provide good food and accommodation, which is also arranged by Gopal Swamy. The priests are very nice with devotees.”
